The article states that all managers expect their employees to be productive. This helps the company to achieve its set goals and objectives. It helps the organization to carry out operations as per the required standards. Lipman states that companies that lack proper management suffer low productivity. Studies have shown that employees need proper management to be productive in their field of work (Lipman, 2013). Neglect or poor management could lead to low productivity and poor performance in the workplace. Lipmanââ¬â¢s statements are consistent with these studies. The article outlines practices that managers can carry out to achieve organizational targets. The practices are broken down into seven steps. These steps according to Lipman help improve the productivity of employees in a company. Lipman suggests that managers should develop economic motivators for employees in all levels. Companies tend to favor senior level management by offering them incentives, while neglecting lower level employees. The outcome is poor employee productivity. Companies that offer economic motivation to all employee levels tend to have higher productivity. The article states that giving feedback to employees is necessary, even if it is negative. It can be argued that employees who do not get feedback tend to repeat mistakes. Lipman advises managers to offer feedback in a way that will encourage employees to be more productive. He describes thi s practice as a cornerstone in management.Advertising Looking for article on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Lipman advises managers to respect each employee as an individual because it helps build good relationships. When an employee feels respected, they are likely to work harder. The article suggests that training is essential to all levels of employees. Focusing on all levels of employees helps build mutual professionalism and competence. Lipman validates this point by stating he received more training as a top-level employee than as a low-level employee. Support for employees is another practice the article prescribes. To expound on this point, managers need to support employees at all levels. This is by re-equipping outdated systems and offering emotional support. Lipman explains that it helps build the employeeââ¬â¢s loyalty. He advices management that leadership in a company models behavior. Leaders should therefore behave in a way the employees can emulate. He states that when leaders are ââ¬Å"all talkâ⬠employees easily notice, and this can lower their productivity. In summary, the article talks about enhancing employee management by looking at the leadership and high-level employees as the ones at fault. Lipmanââ¬â¢s article gives a guideline to management on how to engage employees for better productivity. Management and good organizational behavior relies on effective communication among all levels of employees. However, Lipman concentrates solely on high-level management. The article is therefore one-sided and does not offer adequate management advice. To improve employee productivity, management has to focus on more than just top-level employees or incentives. The article should have also covered employee relations at the lower levels. This helps in bottom-top communication in an organizat ion, boosting productivity. To be successful, all levels of employees must work together towards a mutual goal.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on Victor Lipman, a Forbes Magazine contributor talks about the management practices specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Reference Lipman, V. Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution essays
Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution essays The Civil War is sometimes referred to as the Second American Revolution. This is a suitable description because of the tremendous impact it had on our economic, political, and social development. President Abraham Lincoln succeeded in keeping the United States intact during this transition where many men would have failed. The origins of this disruptive war can be found in the framing of the Constitution and the century old debate between Federalists and Anti-Federalists over the issue of states' rights. The Founding Fathers of our society were, almost to the man, thoughtful, ambitious, well-educated and discursive people. To the Fathers it was clear, that government should be limited not only in the number of powers it exercised, but in the extent of territory it ruled. The small and local were preferable to the vast and national. If one state or local government should exceed its proper powers, citizens should be able to escape it without leaving the continent. In the 1798 Kentucky Resolutions, Thomas Jefferson said that thefederal government must never be allowed to become the final arbiter of the extent of its own powers.? He felt giving all the power back to the nation would inevitably bring the United States back to square one; that is what the Americans had been fighting against in the Revolutionary War. Federalism as a philosophical concept is appealing in its natural sense of fairness and support between the states and a unifying, supervising government. However, it is not realistic when applied in the governing of a nation because of the fact that one of the elements, either the states or the central government, must assume the dominant role. There is a necessary triumph of the states or the national government. This struggle for the upper hand in government is what brought about the Civil War. The conflict was inevitable because of the Constitution, itself, and its confusing wording pertaining to the balance of pow...

Persuasive speech Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Persuasive speech - Essay Example ariety of ways as it infringes on these basic human rights, gives law enforcement officers far too much control in decision-making and assessment, and will dramatically impact internal organizational structure for businesses that actively hire immigrant service workers. First, it is necessary to understand the language of the new Arizona immigration law to recognize why it is unethical. The law states, ââ¬Å"a law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, townâ⬠¦may not consider race, color or national origin in the enforcement of the law EXCEPT to the extent permitted by the U.S. or Arizona Constitutionâ⬠(Tesdahl, 17). This law recognizes fundamental human rights based on similar non-discriminatory principles upheld by federal law. However, by adding the exception to the law, it gives law enforcement officers too much flexibility in the interpretation process of constitutional law. In so many ways, this is an activity that should be determined by experienced legal practitioners in the judicial system. This new law gives local law enforcement officers the ability to conduct traffic stops or background checks for individuals who they believe have illegal status. What is actually amusing about this situation is that race and color should not be considerations, however the majority of illegal immigrants are of non-Caucasian descent and would therefore be targeted simply by their ethnic profile. Further, the law allows officers to make instantaneous decision-making based on their level of understanding of Arizona and Federal Constitutional law. There is no guarantee that such assessments will be founded on knowledge principles pertaining to the law and could cause considerable financial and legal burdens for those improperly assessed and improperly detained for immigration issues. Local governments, such as Phoenix, Chandler and Tucson have previously conducted their law enforcement activities as sanctuaries, where law enforcement personnel has

Vincent Van Gogh the Sower Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Vincent Van Gogh the Sower - Essay Example The essay "Vincent Van Gogh the Sower" analyzes the painting by Vincent Van Gogh. Being a marvelous demonstration of van Gogh's signature style The Sower illustrates wise biblical statements, which play a huge role in the life of the painter, and has a clear metaphorical meaning. The painting combines straight and wavy brushstrokes. Thus, the lines used by van Gogh to create a field, which the sower is walking through, are quite abrupt but intertwined. As van Gogh was a religious man the image of a solitary working man, who starts his day with the dawn, communicates symbolic meaning influenced by biblical themes, according to which everyone reaps what he or she sows. A huge circular blinding shape of the rising sun makes the figure of the sower look small as if stressing on frailty of human life, which is brief and may end before the day is done. Such deliberate variety of shapes used by van Gogh (including straight geometrical shapes of the sun rays) within one piece serves philosop hical purposes and emphasizes the keynote of The Sower, in which a bright sun painted in a vivid color might be a symbol of God. Although the painting has lots of implied lines it does not seem to have a clear implied mass. Both the sun behind the sower's back and the sower himself have actual mass. However, although the space of the painting is flat and two-dimensional, the field that the sawer walks through seems to have an implied depth partially due to its vertical placement, which creates an illusion of depth.

The Reluctant Security Guard Essay Example for Free
The Reluctant Security Guard Essay Summary of the Facts: à à à à à à à à à à à David Tuff is a security guard of Blue Mountain. As a security guard, he is required by law to report to the police all serious accidents and crimes, including felonies, occurring within the premises wherein which he is detailed. However, Blue Mountain created a new company policy ordering the security guards to just escort intoxicated persons, including drunk drivers, from the parking lots onto the public road. The company policy prohibited the security guards from reporting such incidents to the police. à à à à à à à à à à à Tuff complained against this new company policy. He says this is contrary to the oath he swore to uphold as required by law. Thus, contrary to another company policy, he revealed to the media this new policy which seemed wrong to him. The result was public disgust against Blue Mountain. Because of this, Tuff was fired. Propriety of Tuffââ¬â¢s Action à à à à à à à à à à à As a matter of right, Tuff had every right to speak what he spoke to the media. His right springs from the constitutional guarantee to freedom of speech. This means that his right to speak is not just some ordinary right granted by some law. It is one which is inherent in every man from the moment he is born and is protected by the constitution. à à à à à à à à à à à However, when he signed up with Blue Mountain, he agreed not to disclose anything to the media as reflected by company policy. In a sense, he waived a portion of his right to freedom of speech in order to be employed. This is a valid waiver. Since Tuff violated company policy, he violated an agreement he voluntarily entered into. Thus, his act of revealing company policies to the media is, in the final analysis, inappropriate. What he should have done? à à à à à à à à à à à If I were Tuff, I would have not been so rash as to incite public outcry against my employer. To my mind, such a course of action violates the rules of fair play. In fact, it is a violation of a company policy which I agreed to as a requirement for my employment. There are three things to consider: the law, the company policies and my employment contract. Since it is hard to harmonize all three in determining a proper course of action, the right thing to do is to have gone to a lawyer who will discuss to me my options. A lawyer could tell me how to proceed without violating the law, the company policies, or my employment contract, or at least, in case I should violate one, I will still make a better informed decision. Propriety of Firing Tuff à à à à à à à à à à à Tuff violated company policy. In fact, his violation can be considered as serious misconduct because he did it with utter disregard of specific orders not to talk to the media. His first infraction was forgiven by management. Yet after that, he made the same violation. This serious misconduct makes his termination justified. Alternative to Termination à à à à à à à à à à à The termination of Tuff is not the only remedy available to Blue Mountain. From a certain perspective, such act is too harsh for after all, he was just exercising his right to free speech on what he sees to be wrong. Moreover, the new company policy is contradictory to what the law requires of him. Under the cognitive dissonance theory, he was just having a hard time harmonizing the dissonance. Management should have at least tried to see it this way. à à à à à à à à à à à Surely, the company would hate to make a company policy which makes its employees violate the law. Hence, it should have first sat down with Tuff, which it did not do in this case, to discuss a solution for Tuffââ¬â¢s dilemma. They should have sought to employ one of the many alternative dispute resolution methods. A compromise would have been reached. This solution is quiet and amicable and makes everybody happy. Sensationalizing the issue by going to the media or to the court, for that matter, just worsens the situation and makes everybody edgy, including those not involved, making a compromise harder to reach.

Niccolo Machiavelli: About Liberal Countries
Italian philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli in Chapter V of his writing speculates upon political backgrounds of governing the empires and expresses his opinion about the most effective way to rule such parts of the empire, which previously were living under own system of laws and regulations. In Machiavelliââ¬â¢s opinion, the best political strategy to govern such principalities or cities would be establishing the system of strict control of the ruler and making new colonies obey the laws which were already existing in the empire. In case if by some reason it is impossible to hold the new colonies in bondage, the best and the safest way, according to Machiavelli, would be destroying such former liberal regions. He supports this idea with a number of specific historical examples that illustrate the truthfulness of his hypothesis. Ancient city of Sparta gained control of several colonies, including the cities of Thebes and Athens, but could not dominate there for some long period of time and eventually lost these cities, because the old order and laws were not abolished. However, the Roman Empire was following another tactic: in such colonies of the Romans as Numantia, Capua and Carthage the old system of laws and social order were dismantled and new regions were totally placed under the command of the Emperor. That is how the Romans succeeded in keeping those colonies under control for centuries. According to Machiavelli, this phenomenon can be explained by the necessity to suppress liberal thoughts and love to freedom of newly acquired colonies, because otherwise the spirit of liberty will cause the attempts to obtain independence or revenge. The philosopher also points on some advantages and benefits of being governed by some ruler for the colonies. First of all, the experienced head of the empire can establish political and economic order in a colony much easier and more effectively. Besides, the ruler can provide higher national security and protect the nation from possible civil misunderstandings, rebellions or military attacks, and so on.
